Project Design and Management: Process Redesign and System Implementation For a chain of 44 hospitals, we led the effort to evaluate current operational practices, identify opportunities for improvement and design improved procedures to fully leverage new accounting and collections software. We then directed the structured rollout of the software applications to the 44 sites nationwide over an 18 month period. Data Conversion For a Medicaid managed care plan developing new software for billing, eligibility, provider management, claims processing and financial applications, we developed and managed the projects to convert an existing FoxPro database to an Oracle environment. As part of the project we established and managed the new Data Services function encompassing database administration, a data architect, and conversion programming services. Facilitation of Meetings and Workshops: Information Systems Strategy Seminar For a regional medical center, we conducted a three day project to investigate and articulate the ideas and opinions of hospital management and staff with regard to information systems strategy. We then conducted a day long seminar which resulted in the convergence of differing points of view, competing priorities and technological preferences. The client subsequently used the products of these sessions to identify software products and vendors for evaluation and selection. Requirements Definition For a managed care plan, we conducted a series of meetings to identify the requirements for new applications designs for billing, capitation processing, provider maintenance, eligibility, membership, customer service and finance. These sessions identified different applications requirements for both managed care plan and third party administration (TPA) functionality. The resulting work products were used to derive system specifications for development staff. Process Analysis and Flowcharting: University Logistics Redesign For a large medical school, we directed a project to evaluate the requisitioning, purchasing, distribution, warehousing and charge capture processes. We led the redesign effort that resulted in new process flows for all logistics functions, information systems requirements and specifications for a new logistics center for the entire campus. The project identified over $2 million in cost reductions. Family Practice Residency Program For a large regional hospital, we documented all business processes in a group practice of 45 family practice residents, including billing, collections, appointment scheduling, procedure and treatment documentation, medical records and academic record maintenance. Recommendations for process improvement were used to select new physicians' practice management (PPM) software and to implement more accurate academic record keeping methods. | Information Systems Requirements Definition and RFP Preparation: Finance and Administration For a Seattle software startup firm, established accounting and bookkeeping standards, prepared all financial statements and reports for tax, regulatory and venture capital requirements, and managed administrative functions required to operate and grow a startup firm in the software industry with over $20 million in venture capital. |
